Kelly_168x252Kelly Vandever is the founder and president of Speaking Practically.

In an attention-deficient, entertain-me-now, wait-while-I-post-that-on-my-Facebook-page kind of world, the typical business presentation is lame. Professional speaker, trainer, coach, tweeter and blogger Kelly Vandever is on a mission to change that. An award winning speaker herself, Kelly helps organizations crank up their content and create killer audience interaction using old school and hi-tech techniques, all while annihilating bullet points and making this a better world for business audiences everywhere.

Kelly’s professional career includes more than twenty years of management experience as a military officer and a manager in four Fortune 500 companies. Kelly received her BA in Sociology from Iowa State and her Masters of Management Science from the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California. An 11-year veteran of the U.S. Navy, Kelly rose to the rank of Lieutenant Commander and was awarded two Navy Commendation Medals for personal achievement while on active duty. After leaving the service, she worked in the information technology field over 13 years, managing both human resources and software development professionals before starting her own company in 2007.

Kelly has served on the boards of the local chapters of both the American Society for Training and Development (ASTD) and of the National Speakers Association (NSA) and has delivered speeches or training to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, USAID, The Home Depot, AT&T, Verizon Wireless, Xaar International, PointClear Solutions, Alltel, Computer Troubleshooters Global, Florida Head Start Association, Region IV Head Start Association, Chick-Fil-A, Thompson Technologies, ITT Technology Institute, National Pharmaceutical SAS Users Group, Educators Advancement Group and more. Kelly taught public speaking as an adjunct professor at Kennesaw State University and her coaching clients have included CEOs, technologists, scientists, sales professionals, entrepreneurs, ministers, and corporate leaders.

Kelly is married to her college sweetheart, Rich Vandever, and the couple have two adult children and two amazing grandchildren. Kelly and Rich reside in a suburb north of Atlanta with their dog named Dude.

   Claudia W. Brogan, M.S. Ed.
I.A.F. Certified Professional Facilitator

Claudia is a speaker, trainer and facilitator who enjoys leading collaborative
meetings and problem-solving with groups and teams. As an International
Association for Facilitators’ (IAF) Certified Professional Facilitator,
Claudia’s focus is helping groups develop creative vision, develop a
practical plan for proceeding, marshal personnel and logistical resources, and exchange ideas, action strategies and mutual accountability. Her specialties include coaching groups and individuals on ways to improve their presentation delivery skills, and providing training for leadership skills development and communication. She is most helpful to those wishing to build confidence in speaking and becoming; she continually earns praise for her infectious sense of energy and enthusiasm. In numerous presentations, she has been able to inject interest, humor and awareness for even the most dry topics. She is highly skilled at helping a roomful of participants move from being strangers to being a well-functioning, collaborative group.

Ms. Brogan has facilitated groups in a wide variety of settings, including public health practice, higher education, and non-profit agency boards. She has worked as a lecturer, student affairs supervisor, and staff / faculty training manager at leading universities including Indiana University, the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and the University of North Carolina-Charlotte. Claudia worked at the Centers for Disease Control for five years as Training Advisor and national conference director, then the Public Health Informatics Institute for state and county health departments as Training Manager.

Claudia earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts from Illinois Wesleyan University, majoring in Education, English, and Theater. Her Masters degree is in Education from the University of Wisconsin-Platteville. A lifelong learner, she has completed additional graduate studies in Instructional Systems Development at Indiana University and is continuing to study personality theory applications on teams and in the workplace, as well as adult learning applications and theory. Claudia has served on several Executive Boards and has worked with a variety of Boards of Directors. She has enjoyed her greatest reward from serving in leadership capacities on a county-wide Board of Directors for Big Brothers / Big Sisters. Her responsibilities included serving as the Personnel Chairperson, then the Marketing Chairperson, then Board President. Since that time, she has enjoyed consulting with multiple non-profit agencies and volunteer boards. Claudia is an active member of the Southeast Association of Facilitators and the Advanced Speakers Roundtable of Atlanta. Having served as an executive board member for the local chapter, she is also a member of the Association for Training and Development.

Despite strong fondness for the Midwest, Claudia is enjoying life in Decatur, Georgia which often-times feels like life in a personable small town. She has a daily walking habit, which is insisted upon by her two rescue dogs, Roxie and Morgan-Brogan. She’s a movie aficionado and is still practicing jazz piano techniques she learned as a youngster.

Bob Goodyear

Bob is a veteran speaker on technology and is known as “A geek who speaks.” He has spoken in 17 different countries about technical subjects. He has presented keynotes, general sessions and breakouts at over 30 technology conferences. He is particularly known for his ability to help technical professionals incorporate stories into their technical presentations. He encourages his clients to “tell a technical tale” whenever they present.

With over 30 years of IT experience as a software engineer, technical instructor, sales engineer, product manager and corporate evangelist, Bob understands the communications challenges that technical professionals face.  Currently he works as a technical sales education consultant for Symantec and also is an instructor for the Certified Business English Proficient IT Professional certification program.

Bob is a member of the National Speakers Association and a Certified World Class Speaking Coach.  He is also a contributing author to the book “World Class Speaking in Action” in which he wrote a chapter titled “Tell A Technical Tale.”

He has been married to Nancy for more than 35 years and together they have 5 children, 6 grandchildren and has acquired many frequent flyer points in order to visit all of them.

  Tom Nixon

Tom Nixon has over 3 decades of experience assisting clients of all sizes
with meaningful business communications. For the last 10 years, he has
worked with business leaders and subject matter experts who want to
inspire and motivate their audiences with powerful visual experiences. Tom
both creates visual presentations (PowerPoint, Keynote, etc.) and consults
with his clients to enhance their on-stage techniques and delivery.

Tom’s clients range from corporate executives at fortune 100 companies to sales teams to independent authors and thought-leaders to professional speakers. Some of the sectors he has experience in include: retail, international business, finance, B2B, medical devices and medical service providers, associations, manufacturing, agriculture, consulting and non-profits.

The University of Rhode Island gave him a BA in Biology in 1974 which he did not utilize even for a second. In spite of that, Tom has had successful careers in photography, graphic design in print and online and currently in presentation design and coaching.

His first book “Slide Ways” will be published in May of 2015.

Tom and his wife of 36 years, Shirley, have two daughters and two incredibly smart and beautiful granddaughters. They live in Marietta, Georgia.

Natalie Gallagher

Natalie Gallagher is a writer, speaker, and educator. She earned degrees in English and History from Eastern New Mexico University, where she was Editor-in-Chief of the El Portal Literary Magazine, and a Masters in Education from the University of St. Thomas.

Natalie taught Composition, Creative Writing, Poetry, Narrative Design (the art of storytelling), and Public Speaking for several years at the Southwest University of Visual Arts in Albuquerque, NM. She has worked extensively with artists, designers, and advertisers in helping them develop a unique voice, and cultivate the communication skills necessary to convey an idea that resonates with a target audience.

She is a skilled storyteller who works closely with clients to help them express unique personalities through the written content in their marketing. Natalie has done work for Seeing True, Progressive Recovery, 1heart2lives, and more. When she’s not crafting the perfect content for her clients, she is honing her public speaking and storytelling skills in Speakers Roundtable Advanced Toastmasters. Natalie is a voracious reader, movie buff, baseball fan, avid traveler, and skilled cook.

While originally a native of Albuquerque, Natalie currently lives in Atlanta with her husband, and two insolent cats.
