Did You Know that Audiences Can Pick Out Inauthentic Speakers – Even If You’re Not Pinocchio?

The moment I saw the latest, GEICO commercial, “Did You Know Pinocchio Was a Bad Motivational Speaker,” I started formulating this post!

Audiences Can Sense Inauthentic Speakers
My contention is that audiences pick up on inauthentic speakers. Disingenuous speakers leak out signals through their body language even if those signs are more subtly than Pinocchio’s growing nose. And audiences, either through years of experience or human evolution, pick up on those nonverbal cues, even if only on a subliminal level. The individual audience member may not be able to put her finger on it, but she senses that something just wasn’t quite right.
What If YOU’RE the Inauthentic Speaker
But what if you’re that speaker? What if you’re the speaker who worries that you’re sending subliminal messages out because you don’t believe in your audience or your product?
I think we all know the answer to that question. Something has to change.
Either find a way to believe. Or move on.
Don’t waste your time and the audience’s time if you don’t believe that what you have to say will be of value and make a difference to them.
Don’t sell that product if you don’t see the value it brings to your audience.
Don’t fake genuine.
Don’t harm others, your own reputation and your own health by pushing ideas and products that you don’t believe in.
Life’s too short. Make a difference for the good when you speak.
